The Calvià Town Hall has presented the official website of 'Calvianers', a digital platform designed to preserve the collective memory of the municipality through the stories of its inhabitants.
The website, available at www.calvianers.com, gathers the contents of the first two editions of the series dedicated to the areas of Magaluf (2025) and Santa Ponça (2026). The platform offers complete documentaries, biographies of those honoured, and a summary of events held in both locations.
A social memory project
The 'Calvianers' project aims to recover the social memory of Calvià through personal testimonies and historical photographs. With a focus on the people who have contributed to the transformation of Calvià, it highlights community relationships and the sense of belonging that have been fundamental over the years.
The website includes images illustrating the evolution of the areas, sourced from the Calvià Municipal Archive, local libraries, and contributions from families and residents. These images complement the narratives of those who have lived key moments in the history of Calvià.
New editions and diverse perspectives
Juan Antonio Amengual, mayor of Calvià, has stated that 'Calvianers' is a recognition of all those who have helped build the municipality we know today, ensuring that their stories will be preserved for future generations.
The Town Hall is already working on a new edition to be presented at the end of this year, focusing on another area of the municipality. Driven by the council and funded through the Sustainable Tourism Tax, the project is expected to continue expanding.
The current series highlights twenty representative stories. In the first edition about Magaluf, the protagonists recount the beginnings of their businesses and the evolution of the main tourist area. The edition on Santa Ponça offers different perspectives on its development from the seventies to today, including contributions from local residents and outsiders.
With 'Calvianers', the Calvià Town Hall seeks not only to inform but also to celebrate the rich history and cultural diversity of the community, promoting a sense of belonging and pride among its inhabitants.
