The Calvià Town Hall has signed an agreement with the Federation of Associations of Pensioners, Retirees and Elderly People of Mallorca to cover the fees for 3,000 users from 11 associations in the municipality.
The Calvià Town Hall has decided to spend its own money so that the elderly in the municipality do not have to reach into their pockets. Through an agreement with the Federation of Associations of Pensioners, Retirees and Elderly People of Mallorca, the council will assume the full payment of the fees for members of the 11 associations for elderly people in the municipality. The measure, according to municipal sources, will directly benefit nearly 3,000 users.
A signing with a taste of recognition
The signing event, held at the municipal offices, brought together the mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual; the deputy mayor for Social Services, Juana María Prats; the head of the Elderly Department, Loli Godoy; and the president of the Federation, Joan Bibiloni. All of them posed with the smile of those who know they have taken a practical and symbolic step at the same time.
Amengual highlighted that elderly people are a priority for the governing team and that an active and organised elderly community contributes to healthier ageing. In short, it is not just about paying, but about recognising the work of those who have built the municipality.
More than fees: venues and projects
The agreement is not an isolated action. The Town Hall reminded that it is involved in a process of improvement and modernisation of the venues of the various associations, with the aim of providing them with more comfortable, safe, and adapted spaces. For the residents of Calvià, this means that the seniors' centre in their neighbourhood could soon have a new laundry room or a larger lounge.
Additionally, the council is promoting active ageing initiatives through intergenerational projects. The Llar de Calvià, public educational centres, the Youth Department, and the museum of the Archaeological Park of Puig de Sa Morisca are collaborating to create shared cultural and social spaces. The idea is for the elderly to teach the young how to make 'panades' and for the young to explain to them how TikTok works. Or something like that.
The mayor, in a display of unintentional irony, stated that this institutional support represents recognition of the contribution that this group has made and continues to make to the municipality. Without them, Calvià would be a place with many swimming pools but little memory.
For those interested, the agreement is already in effect, and the fees will be paid automatically. Members do not have to complete any procedures. So, seniors of Calvià, enjoy your retirement without worrying about the Federation's bill.
