The El Toro Neighbourhood Association has commemorated its 50th anniversary with a brotherhood dinner in Plaza Europa, which marked the start of the summer festivities in the Calvià area.

More than 400 members gathered this Saturday in Plaza Europa of El Toro to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the neighbourhood association of the Calvià area. The evening, organised by the entity chaired by Antonio José Bermejo, also served as the kickoff for the summer festivities in the locality.

Founded on November 20, 1976, the association currently has 420 members and is led by a board where Maipu Moreno holds the position of first vice-president. During the dinner, tribute was paid to those who have contributed to the development of community life in El Toro, with a special recognition for past presidents who have stood out for their commitment to the community.

The event was attended by the mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, and the local councillor for El Toro, Juan Thomàs. Amengual highlighted that the association “is an example not only for its longevity and continuity over time but also for representing the civil society of Calvià.”

The mayor emphasised the dynamism of the El Toro area and the role played by various neighbourhood, cultural, and senior citizen entities in the life of the municipality, keeping it active throughout the year. The entity also expressed gratitude for the support received from institutions and the Calvià Town Hall.

The brotherhood dinner, which brought together families and neighbours, turned into a festive evening that combined the celebration of the association's half-century of history with the start of the summer festivities. Attendees shared tables and enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere, with music and dancing extending the night.

The El Toro neighbourhood association has been, over these five decades, a fundamental pillar in organising cultural, sports, and advocacy activities in the area. Its trajectory reflects the evolution of the locality, which has transformed from a small settlement to a consolidated community within the municipality of Calvià.

For the residents, celebrating this anniversary is a source of pride and an impetus to continue working for the improvement of their environment. The entity is already preparing new activities for the coming months, aiming to maintain social cohesion and promote citizen participation.
