The Ministry of the Sea and Water Cycle has given the green light for the use of the Pinada of Santa Ponça for the Rei En Jaume festivities, with protective measures for the dune system.
The traditional Rei En Jaume festivities in Calvià will be able to take place as in previous years. The Ministry of the Sea and Water Cycle of the Government has officially authorised the use of the Pinada of Santa Ponça for the camping of the collas, after accepting the recommendations from the Environmental Area of the Calvià Town Hall.
The mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, expressed his satisfaction with a resolution that allows the delineation of camping perimeters and protects the dune system in the area. “We are pleased because we respond to our collas and strictly comply with environmental protection criteria,” he stated.
The use of the pinada will be restricted to the central area that will be delineated, and a physical barrier will be installed in the area of greatest environmental value to prevent access. Furthermore, the use of fire and combustion elements is completely prohibited throughout the area.
Heavy furniture or structures that could compact the soil, such as stages, toilets, or inflatables, cannot be installed, and must be located outside the forest mass. These measures have been proposed by municipal technicians and have been positively assessed by the Ministry.
With this authorisation, the Calvià Town Hall achieves a double objective: satisfying the demand of the collas, who wanted to maintain camping in its traditional location, and preserving a space of high environmental value like Santa Ponça beach.
Amengual has indicated that the council will now focus on organising festivities “that are so fundamental for Calvià,” with preparations underway for residents and visitors to enjoy them to the fullest.
