The town of Alcúdia began its patron saint festivities of Sant Jaume this Friday with an opening speech by Coloma Terrassa, the first woman to serve as mayor of the municipality. The event gathered authorities and locals in the church square.
Coloma Terrassa Ventayol, who was the first woman to hold the mayoralty of Alcúdia, was responsible for delivering the speech that marked the start of the Sant Jaume 2026 festivities. The event took place on Friday, July 17 at 19:30 in the square of the parish church of Sant Jaume, following an institutional parade that started from the Sala.
An Emotional and Memorable Speech
Terrassa, visibly emotional, recounted experiences and anecdotes from her time at the helm of the council, as well as her personal connection to Alcúdia. The audience, which filled the square, cheered and applauded at various moments during the speech, which combined nostalgia and pride for the municipality.
The preceding procession, led by the current mayor, Josefina Linares, and the Councillor for Culture and Festivities, Àngela Amer, traversed the streets of the historic centre accompanied by the Gegants d'Alcúdia and the batucada group Trons del Nord, who added rhythm and colour to the parade.
Music and Community to Set the Tone
After the speech, the Alcúdia Town Hall offered refreshments to attendees, accompanied by a performance from saxophonist TAOSAX, creating a relaxed and festive atmosphere. The day culminated at 22:00 with a concert by Joan Dausà, who presented his new album Immortals in one of the most anticipated performances of the programme.
Dausà, with his intimate pop style, managed to connect with the audience in Alcúdia, who sang along to songs like Jo mai mai and enjoyed the new tracks. The free concert took place in the same square and attracted several dozen people.
Diverse Programme Until July 25
The Sant Jaume festivities will continue until July 25 with a wide range of activities: from concerts and children's shows to sports competitions and traditional events. The Town Hall has designed a programme for all audiences, with special attention to families and visitors who come to Alcúdia during these days.
Highlights include the nit de foc, the correfocs, popular dances, and the solemn mass in honour of Sant Jaume. There will also be space for culture with exhibitions and theatre, as well as sporting activities such as the traditional popular race.
The council invites both locals and tourists to participate in the celebrations, which have become an unmissable event of the summer in the Raiguer region. Mayor Linares encouraged everyone to enjoy safe and participatory festivities, reminding that measures have been taken to ensure coexistence and respect for residents' rest.
