The wind fuels the Castellón fire: 8,500 hectares burned and maximum concern in Alcudia de Veo and Tales

The forest fire declared in Vall d'Uixó has already scorched 8,500 hectares and remains out of control. The wind and the heatwave expected in the coming days complicate extinguishing efforts, with particular risk in Alcudia de Veo and Tales.

The forest fire that has been raging for days in Vall d'Uixó (Castellón) has already burned 8,500 hectares and continues to be active, with firefighting teams unable to stabilise it. The deputy for Firefighters of the Castellón Provincial Council, David Vicente, has acknowledged from the Advanced Command Post (PMA) that the situation is "very complex" and that the evolution of the fire will depend on the coming hours, marked by increased winds and the arrival of a new heatwave.

Vicente reported that several flare-ups have been recorded at different fronts during midday, one of which occurred in Artana, necessitating the redistribution of resources. "We are working tirelessly," he stated, although he admitted that the intensity of the flames sometimes forces them to act "behind" the fire. The terrain of the Serra d'Espadà complicates access for both ground and aerial resources.

The aerial resources, which were unable to operate in the morning due to the dense column of smoke, have regained full capacity. Currently, 34 helicopters and planes are working simultaneously, considered key to halting the advance in the most rugged areas. On the ground, the operation includes 642 personnel from various administrations, as detailed by the Provincial Council.

One of the areas of greatest concern is located in the municipalities of Alcudia de Veo and Tales, where the continuity of the forest mass favours propagation. Technicians are permanently analysing the meteorological evolution to adapt strategies. The forecast of wind and high temperatures for the coming days adds uncertainty to control efforts.

David Vicente positively assessed that the residents of Vall d'Uixó and Vilavella have been able to return to their homes after the lifting of the confinement, although he insisted that the emergency is far from over. "It is a very complicated fire," he reiterated, reminding that the priority has been to protect lives and prevent the flames from reaching urban centres and isolated homes.

The operation maintains constant monitoring and does not rule out adapting the deployment based on weather conditions. The fire, one of the most serious of the summer in the province of Castellón, remains active and the coming hours will be crucial for its evolution.
