The percussion group Batala Badajoz will perform as the special guest at the Sabatum Festival in Binissalem, which takes place from July 24 to 26. The Extremaduran group will conduct workshops and lead the parades of the event.
Binissalem is preparing to host the third edition of the Sabatum Festival, a percussion gathering that will bring together over 450 musicians from the Balearic Islands, the rest of Spain, and France. Among the participants, the presence of Batala Badajoz stands out, a guest group that will carry the name of the Extremaduran city to the heart of Mallorca.
The group from Badajoz, with nearly 30 members, will be responsible for opening the parades that will traverse the streets of the municipality during the patron festivities of Sant Jaume, which are celebrated from July 24 to 26. Their powerful live performances and choreographies, typical of the Carnival of Badajoz, will be one of the main attractions of the festival.
In addition to the performances, Batala Badajoz will conduct percussion workshops aimed at the other participating groups. These workshops will be led by four of their five musical directors, who will share the group's techniques and repertoire with the other percussionists.
Batala Badajoz is part of the international network Batalá Mundo, which groups percussion formations from various countries. With over 20 years of experience, it is the oldest band in this network in Spain. Their style is characterised by the massive use of drums such as surdos, repeniques, cajas, and dobras, offering a joyful rhythm of Afro-Brazilian music.
The Sabatum Festival in Binissalem thus consolidates itself as a meeting point for percussion lovers, with a programme that combines street performances, concerts, and training activities.
