The Inca City Council has hired six young people with university degrees or vocational training thanks to the SOIB programme, which is funded by the European Union. The project, endowed with over €236,000, will strengthen areas such as communication, culture, and heritage.
The programme "SOIB – Employment Opportunities for Qualified Young People in Local Entities 2026-2027" has allowed the Inca City Council to hire six young people who are already working in various municipal departments. The initiative, co-funded by SOIB, the Sectoral Conference on Employment and Labour Affairs, and the European Union (FSE+), aims to provide a first professional experience for young people with higher education.
A grant of nearly €200,000
SOIB has granted the Inca City Council a subsidy of €192,249.15, while the council contributes €43,958.04. In total, the programme amounts to €236,207.19 to finance twelve-month contracts. The new employees have joined between July 7 and August 4.
The Councillor for Training and Employment, Maria Francisca Barceló, highlighted that "this programme is a very valuable opportunity for young people to gain professional experience in their field of study, improving their future job insertion possibilities".
Profiles adapted to municipal needs
The six contracts cover very diverse areas. A graduate in Journalism works in the Communication Area; a graduate in History works at the Shoe and Industry Museum; and a graduate in Geography is involved in heritage management tasks. Additionally, two individuals with qualifications as Higher Technicians in Management Assistance or in Administration and Finance support the Training, Employment, and Labour Area and heritage management. Finally, a higher technician in Marketing and Advertising strengthens the Culture Area.
Barceló emphasized that these new profiles "bring knowledge, talent, and an innovative perspective" to municipal services. The programme also allows young people to gain experience in their training field, a requirement that is often difficult to achieve without prior contacts.
A boost for young talent and public services
The aim of the programme is twofold: to facilitate the job insertion of qualified young people and to improve the efficiency of local public services. The Inca City Council has reaffirmed its commitment to active employment policies, especially in a context where the youth unemployment rate in the Balearic Islands hovers around 25%, according to EPA data.
The contracts, lasting twelve months, are part of the SOIB Opportunities programme, which finances local entities across all the Islands. In Inca, the initiative has addressed specific needs, such as managing cultural heritage or enhancing municipal communication. The new workers have already begun to carry out their tasks, and the council positively assesses the initial impact.
For young people in Inca interested in future calls, SOIB typically opens new editions each year. The councillor has encouraged qualified young people to stay alert for upcoming opportunities, as "the experience gained in this programme is a springboard for their professional future".
