The Guardia Civil is looking for a driver who hit and killed an 83-year-old cyclist this Monday on the road to Cala Sant Vicent in Pollença and fled the scene. The vehicle, a dark Mercedes ML280, was towing a striking pink fairground trailer, a detail that investigators consider crucial in locating the responsible party.

Two fatal hit-and-runs in 24 hours

The incident occurred around 7:55 AM when the cyclist was struck by the car. The driver did not stop to assist and continued driving. An eyewitness followed the vehicle for a few meters while honking the horn to chastise the fleeing driver, but the Mercedes accelerated and managed to escape.

This incident adds to another fatal hit-and-run that occurred on Sunday in Capdepera, where a 55-year-old Swedish tourist out for a run was killed by a Volkswagen Polo. In that case, the driver, a 21-year-old Spanish man, was arrested hours later and tested positive for alcohol.

Public cooperation to locate the vehicle

Investigators from the Guardia Civil's Traffic Accident Investigation Team have requested public assistance in locating the Mercedes ML280. Anyone who has seen it driving in the Pollença area or has images that could help identify it is urged to contact the authorities.

The pink fairground trailer is a very unusual element, which could prove decisive in identifying the responsible party. The Guardia Civil is continuing the investigation and does not rule out that the driver may be located in the coming hours.

Both incidents have once again highlighted one of the most serious behaviours behind the wheel: leaving the scene of an accident with victims. Spanish legislation punishes this crime with prison sentences of up to four years and the revocation of the driving licence.

While the Capdepera case was resolved within hours thanks to swift police investigation, in Pollença, officers continue to work to locate the fleeing driver and clarify the circumstances of the fatal hit-and-run. The Guardia Civil reminds the importance of stopping and providing assistance in the event of an accident, as well as respecting speed limits and not driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
