Various health and aquatic safety entities are launching a campaign in Selva to prevent reckless diving, which causes 6% of spinal injuries.
The municipality of Selva is joining this summer a campaign to raise awareness about preventing serious injuries from reckless dives. The initiative, driven by entities specialized in health, rehabilitation, and aquatic safety, reminds that 6% of spinal injuries originate from risky dives.
The campaign, under the slogan 'Enjoy summer wisely', emphasizes basic guidelines before jumping into the water. Among the recommendations is to always check the depth and the bottom, avoid diving headfirst from low heights, and if doing so, enter with hands first and head protected between the arms.
The promoters stress that having fun can be compatible with doing so safely and that avoiding injuries is simple if basic guidelines are followed. Prevention is key, as the consequences of a bad dive can be irreversible.
The Selva council collaborates in disseminating these tips among residents, especially aimed at younger people and those visiting pools and beaches during the summer months. The campaign emphasizes that caution is the best tool to avoid scares.
In the event of an accident, the campaign provides clear instructions: carefully remove the person from the water, keeping the body in a block; check if they are breathing and clear the airway without moving the neck; immediately call 112 or 061 and follow their instructions. It also warns that the victim should not be transported in a private vehicle.
This initiative is set against a backdrop where spinal injuries from diving increase in summer. With direct and simple messages, it aims for both residents and visitors to the inland area of Mallorca to become aware of the risk and act responsibly.
