A man has been arrested by the National Police after hitting another customer in the head with a glass jug in a bar in La Soledat, Palma. The political argument also caused glass shards to injure a nearby child.

Agents of the National Police have arrested a Spanish national as the alleged perpetrator of an assault after attacking another customer with a glass jug in a bar in the Palma neighbourhood of La Soledat. The violent argument, which began over political issues, ended with two injuries: the assaulted man and a minor who was hit by a shard of glass.

The events occurred around four-thirty in the afternoon on Thursday, when two customers began to argue heatedly about politics. The tension escalated until one of them, according to police sources, grabbed a glass jug and struck his opponent forcefully in the head. The impact was so violent that the jug shattered into multiple pieces, and one of them injured a child nearby, causing a bleeding wound.

Several witnesses who witnessed the assault assisted the victims. A bar customer used a towel to stem the bleeding of the assaulted man, who was losing a significant amount of blood due to the head wound. Meanwhile, the assailant hurriedly left the establishment.

Shortly thereafter, several patrols from the Citizen Attention Group (GAC) of the National Police arrived at the venue. The officers attended to the injured and requested the presence of an ambulance. The main victim was taken to a hospital for medical assistance.

After conducting various inquiries, the officers managed to identify and locate the suspect, whom they arrested. During his statement, the detainee admitted to hitting the victim but claimed he acted in self-defence. The National Police continues to investigate the events to clarify the exact circumstances of the assault.

This incident has caused shock among the residents of La Soledat, a quiet neighbourhood in Palma where such violent incidents are rare. The political discussion, which initially may have been a simple difference of opinions, degenerated into an assault that could have had more serious consequences. Fortunately, both the injured man and the minor are out of danger, according to hospital sources.

The National Police reminds the importance of maintaining calm during discussions and avoiding letting differences of opinion escalate into violence. In case of witnessing an assault, it is recommended to call 091 and not to intervene directly if the situation is dangerous.
