Three women arrested for defrauding an elderly man of €20,000 in Palma

The National Police have arrested three women accused of defrauding nearly €20,000 from a 70-year-old man in Palma. The suspects, who had keys to his house, made illegal purchases and transfers using his cards.

The National Police have arrested three women in Palma as alleged perpetrators of a continued fraud against a 70-year-old man. According to the investigation, the suspects allegedly appropriated nearly €20,000 through unauthorized charges and transactions on the victim's bank account.

The facts came to light when the septuagenarian filed a complaint after noticing numerous suspicious movements in his account since early 2024. Police investigations quickly pointed to three women who had access to the elderly man's home, as they assisted him with domestic tasks.

According to sources from the investigation, the detainees had several bank cards belonging to the victim and used them to make purchases at clothing stores, restaurants, and other businesses. Additionally, other illegal transactions were carried out, raising the total amount defrauded to €20,000.

The complainant later expanded his report, indicating that two of the suspects lived in his own home. One of them had also allegedly assaulted him several times, insulted him, and threatened him, which led the man to request a restraining order.

The police operation culminated last Tuesday when officers managed to identify and locate the three women, who were arrested as alleged perpetrators of fraud. After being brought before a judge, a restraining order was issued regarding the victim to ensure his safety.

The investigation remains open to determine if there are more illegal transactions that have affected the elderly man's assets. The National Police do not rule out that the detainees may have also acted against other vulnerable individuals.

This case highlights the vulnerability of elderly people receiving home assistance. The National Police recommend taking extra precautions when hiring assistance services and regularly monitoring bank movements to detect possible fraud.

The detainees, whose personal details have not been disclosed, were released with charges following the restraining order imposed by the judicial authority. The case continues its course in the courts of Palma.
