A man fell this Friday from the rooftop of a building on Francisco Martí Mora street in Palma, landing on two workers who were resting on a bar terrace. All three were injured, one of them critically.
The incident occurred around 15:45 on Francisco Martí Mora street, in the heart of the Son Gotleu neighbourhood. According to initial testimonies gathered at the scene, the man fell from the top of the building and, during his descent, first hit a tree that cushioned part of the impact before crashing onto a table on the bar terrace, where two workers were taking a coffee break.
The impact caused a scene of great tension among the establishment's customers and passers-by, some of whom provided first aid to the injured while emergency services arrived. The area was cordoned off by security forces to facilitate medical assistance and the work of investigators.
All three individuals required urgent medical attention. One of them remains in critical condition, while the other two suffered less severe injuries but also had to be taken to hospital. SAMU 061 paramedics worked for over 40 minutes stabilising the injured before their evacuation, given the complexity of their injuries.
To expedite the transfer, a green alert was activated, a protocol whereby several motorcyclists from the Palma Local Police clear the route for ambulances. Two of the injured were evacuated to Son Espases University Hospital, while the third was taken to Son Llàtzer Hospital.
The National Police have taken charge of the investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident. Homicide Group agents and Scientific Police conducted a site inspection, collected evidence, and interviewed several witnesses. The investigation remains open and no hypothesis regarding the cause of the fall is ruled out, which could be accidental or due to other circumstances.
The deployed operation included personnel from the Local Police, National Police, several SAMU 061 ambulances, and logistical support vehicles. The area remained cordoned off for several hours to facilitate the work of investigators and the removal of evidence.
This incident highlights the danger posed by falling objects or people from buildings in areas with terraces and crowded spaces. Local residents have expressed their shock at what happened, while social services have activated a support protocol for the affected individuals and their families.
