Palma's Municipal Funeral Company (EFM) will take charge of Gènova cemetery for the next ten years, following an agreement with the Parish of the Transfiguration of the Lord. The agreement includes the digitalisation of concessions and improved support for families.
Palma's Municipal Funeral Company (EFM) has begun managing the cemetery of Gènova after signing an agreement with the Parish of the Transfiguration of the Lord, which is under the Diocese of Mallorca. The agreement, with an initial duration of ten years extendable, will allow the unification of funeral services under the same model that the municipal company applies in the other cemeteries of the city.
Unification of services and digitalisation
Since the agreement came into effect, the EFM has taken on the tasks of burials, exhumations and transfers, which must comply with current regulations. One of the first tasks has been to divide the area into zones, assign an individual code to each burial unit, and input all the information into the municipal computer system.
The company is also reviewing the ownerships to update the census of concessions and regularise the existing documentation. From now on, the EFM will handle changes of ownership and other administrative procedures related to graves, niches, and other funeral units.
To facilitate this process, the company has set up a prior appointment system and a direct contact phone line for the families using the services. The parish, for its part, will provide the available documentation and gather the necessary consents to transfer the data to the municipal systems.
Six cemeteries under municipal management
With the inclusion of the Gènova site, the Municipal Funeral Company expands its network of facilities. The entity already manages the cemeteries of Palma, Sant Jordi, Establiments, Bon Sosec-Jardí de Repòs and La Vileta. The City Council states that the agreement will improve the organisation of the cemetery, update information on concessions, and offer more direct administrative support to families.
The agreement, which replaces the previous management by the parish, represents another step in the municipalisation of funeral services in Palma. Residents of Gènova will now be able to carry out funeral procedures under the same conditions as the rest of the capital's citizens, with unified hours and procedures.
For local residents, the change will mean greater agility in procedures and the possibility of accessing online services that are already available in other municipal cemeteries. The EFM anticipates that the transition will be gradual and that full integration of the data will be completed in the coming months.
