The IME has completed the renovation of the lighting at the Palau d'Esports de Son Moix swimming pool, which reopens this Friday with 34 LED projectors and energy savings exceeding 50%.
The Municipal Sports Institute (IME) of Palma has announced the completion of the lighting system renovation at the Palau Municipal d'Esports de Son Moix swimming pool. The facility will reopen to the public this Friday with state-of-the-art LED technology that will reduce energy consumption by more than 50% compared to the previous system.
The works, which began on July 14, required the pool to be closed from Monday to Friday starting at 1:30 PM to facilitate the work. During this time, workers replaced the old installation with a new system consisting of 34 LED projectors of 500 W intended to directly illuminate the water surface and nine 50 W projectors for the seating area.
The new lighting not only reduces electricity costs but also improves light quality, increases reliability, and extends the system's lifespan. According to the IME, the aim of the project was to provide the pool with a more modern installation adapted to the current needs of the sports facility.
The reopening of the pool is good news for regular users, who have seen their hours limited in recent weeks. With the completion of the works, the facility will return to its normal activity and offer significantly improved lighting conditions.
More Works at the Palau Municipal d'Esports
The renovation of the pool lighting is just one part of the modernisation plan that the Palma City Council is carrying out at the Palau Municipal d'Esports de Son Moix. Concurrently, work continues on the renovation of the lighting of the main track, which also began on July 14 and is expected to be completed by the end of August.
The overall project, awarded to the company TECESA Acústica Visual S.L., involves an investment of 1,002,252 euros (including VAT). The project includes the supply and installation of a new motorised substructure for the lighting, a new electrical installation, and new LED fixtures both in the track and in the pool. The pool fixtures are already operational, while those for the track are in the installation phase.
In the case of the pavilion, the new lighting will allow the venue to meet the technical requirements needed for hosting sports competitions and television broadcasts. Additionally, it will incorporate a point-to-point control system using DMX protocol, which will allow for the configuration of different lighting scenes for sports events, presentations, institutional acts, and shows.
Future Sound System and Renovated Parquet Track
Once the lighting works are completed, the IME plans to undertake a second phase with the installation of a new fixed sound system. This project, awarded to NUNSYS S.A., has an investment of 67,852 euros (including VAT) and will improve acoustic quality and ensure uniform sound distribution throughout the venue.
These improvements are complemented by the complete renovation of the removable parquet track, which was completed in October 2025 and involved an investment of 90,306 euros. Together, the modernisation works on the lighting, electrical installation, future sound system, and renovation of the parquet track represent an investment of over 1.09 million euros.
With these actions, the IME continues to promote the modernisation of the Palau Municipal d'Esports de Son Moix, one of the main sports facilities in the city, aiming to maintain it as a reference venue prepared to host official competitions, major events, and sports broadcasts, while improving safety, efficiency, and the service provided to citizens.
Users of the pool will be able to enjoy the facilities again starting this Friday during their usual hours. Works on the track will continue over the coming weeks, so it is recommended to check the IME's official channels for any potential impacts on the pavilion's activities.
