The Felanitx Town Council activates the ordinance regulating municipal charging points. From August 1, users will have to pay and comply with a four-hour limit, with fines of up to 500 euros.
Drivers of electric vehicles using the municipal charging points in Felanitx will have to pay starting August 1, 2026. The Town Council is implementing the regulatory ordinance for the service, published in the Official Bulletin of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) on July 16, following its final approval in the municipal plenary on June 8.
The regulation, which comes into effect after the legal period of fifteen days from its full publication, aims to regulate the private and temporary use of the public charging network. It seeks to ensure effective vehicle turnover and promote a sustainable urban mobility model, in line with the Balearic Islands Climate Change and Energy Transition Law.
Payment will be processed exclusively through the MELIB platform, which includes the RFID card, mobile applications, or collaborating smart interfaces. No payment letter or paper receipt will be issued; the charge to the bank account or device will serve as proof for the user, while the settlement to the Town Council will be done monthly.
Usage Conditions and Maximum Time
The reserved spaces are properly identified with horizontal signage of a green background and a white logo. They may only be occupied by fully or partially electric vehicles (plug-in hybrids) while they are actively charging.
The maximum parking time will be four hours per vehicle. Once charging is completed or the allowed limit is exceeded, the user is obliged to remove the vehicle immediately to allow another user to make use of it.
The text expressly warns that combustion vehicles or electric vehicles that are not charging cannot park in these spaces and may be sanctioned by the authorities.
Sanction Regime in Three Levels
To ensure compliance with the rules and the preservation of the network, the Town Council has established a sanction regime divided into three levels.
Minor infractions, such as not collecting the cable, not depositing the connector correctly, or slightly violating parking instructions, will incur fines of 100 euros.
Serious offenses, penalised with 200 euros, include parking a non-electric vehicle, not removing the car more than an hour after charging has finished, or causing negligent damage to the equipment.
Finally, very serious infractions will be punished with fines of 500 euros and a prohibition on using the charging points for three months. These will apply in cases of intentional damage or theft of installation elements, fraudulent use of the service, or when a user entirely prevents another from charging by occupying the space improperly for the entire reservation time.
With this measure, Felanitx aligns itself with the sustainable mobility policies promoted by the Balearic Government, which aim to reduce emissions and encourage the use of electric vehicles. Users will need to plan their charging considering the new cost and time limit, especially those who rely on public points for their daily mobility.
Drivers who regularly use these chargers will need to familiarise themselves with the MELIB platform and ensure they have the RFID card or corresponding mobile application before August 1. The Town Council recommends checking the status of the signage and instructions at each charging point to avoid penalties.
From this date, the use of municipal charging points in Felanitx will be a paid service, with clear rules aimed at ensuring availability and proper use of the facilities for all citizens.
