Bars wishing to set up a bar on public streets during the Sant Agustí celebration must apply for permission by August 14 and deposit a bond of 2,500 euros.
The Felanitx Town Hall has unanimously approved the regulations governing the installation of street bars during the Sant Agustí festivities, which will take place on August 28. The celebrations will run from August 21 to 31 and will attract thousands of visitors to the urban centre, prompting the Council to establish a specific regulatory framework for the second consecutive year.
Owners of bars, cafes, and restaurants wishing to set up an outdoor bar must submit their application by August 14. The authorization will allow a maximum of ten linear metres in front of the establishment's façade, provided that the establishment keeps its doors open. Additionally, they are exempt from paying the public space occupation fee and do not need to submit any engineering project.
To ensure cleanliness and protect public property, the Town Hall will require each authorized establishment to deposit a bond of 2,500 euros by August 25. This deposit will be returned once municipal technicians verify that the space has been left in suitable conditions, with a maximum period of 24 hours after the celebration to complete cleaning tasks.
The activity of the bars must end by one in the morning. After this time, establishments may only serve food and drink indoors or on already authorized terraces. No concerts or musical performances will be allowed on public streets, while indoor music will be permitted between 1 PM and 1 AM. The agreement also prohibits advertising parties, schedules, or performances by groups in bars.
In terms of environmental and health regulations, the rules prohibit the sale of cans, cups, and glass bottles, as well as plastic bottles over half a litre. Establishments must use reusable cups, which the Town Hall will provide in limited quantities. Venues with indoor music must install two portable toilets at their own expense and allow free access to their indoor restrooms.
The Local Police will strictly monitor compliance with all provisions. The Council reserves the right to order the immediate removal of bars that do not comply with the conditions or pose a safety risk, with corresponding penalties according to the Balearic law on the legal regime of installation and exercise of activities.
For the residents of Felanitx, this regulation provides greater guarantees of safety and cleanliness during the main celebration, although establishments will have to meet more stringent requirements. Interested parties should keep in mind the deadlines: August 14 to apply for the bar and August 25 to deposit the bond.
This measure follows the success of last year’s regulation, when a specific framework was established for this celebration for the first time. The aim is for the celebration to proceed normally and for public space to be left in perfect condition once the festivities are over.
