The Municipal Market of Felanitx hosts an exhibition featuring the final projects of EASDIB students aimed at improving the iconic building, which celebrates its 90th anniversary.
The Municipal Market of Felanitx has been showcasing an exhibition this week with the final projects of students from the School of Art and Higher Design of the Balearic Islands (EASDIB). The exhibition, a result of collaboration between the Felanitx Town Hall and the educational institution, brings together proposals for functional, aesthetic, and organisational improvements to revitalise one of the most emblematic buildings in the municipality.
The works, which can be visited directly inside the market, focus on the renovation of the interior space while keeping the facade and exterior structure intact, which is under heritage protection. The students conducted an architectural and social analysis visit at the beginning of the year and, after months of work, the outcome has been described by the institution as “extraordinary and surprising due to its high level of professionalism.”
The presentation coincides with the 90th anniversary of the Municipal Market, celebrated last July, and with a particularly positive moment for local commerce: all the stalls in the building are occupied for the first time in a long while.
The Markets Councillor of the Felanitx Town Hall, Rafel Rubio, has highly praised the initiative and the work of the young creators. “The contributions made by the EASDIB students are truly surprising and demonstrate great professional vision,” he stated.
“Coinciding with the 90 years of our architectural and social jewel, this collaboration offers us a range of valuable ideas that we will undoubtedly take into account for future renovation and improvement projects of the Municipal Market.”
From now on, the school management and the Town Hall will study the technical and economic viability of the different options to assess the possibility of implementing some of them in upcoming phases of action.
With this exhibition, the Felanitx Town Hall invites all citizens to visit the market to discover these visions for the future, while reaffirming its commitment to the participation of young talent, inter-institutional cooperation, and the enhancement of a central space for the social and economic life of the municipality.
