AEMET has activated a yellow alert for maximum temperatures in Manacor for this Wednesday, with forecasts of up to 40 degrees and a feels-like temperature approaching 53.

Manacor is preparing for a day of extreme heat. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated the yellow alert for maximum temperatures in the eastern part of Mallorca, which directly affects the municipality. The mercury is expected to reach 40 degrees at 3:00 PM, and the feels-like temperature will soar to 53 degrees.

An unrelenting day of sunshine

The day will start with mostly clear skies that will completely clear throughout the afternoon. Minimum temperatures will hover around 21 degrees, but the heat will intensify from early on. The combination of high temperatures and humidity will elevate the feels-like temperature to suffocating levels.

The breezes will be light and from the southeast, so they will not provide relief from the heat. AEMET recommends taking extreme precautions, especially during the central hours of the day. Avoid sun exposure, hydrate frequently, and pay attention to the most vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and children.

Forecast for the coming days

The heat will not relent in the coming days. For tomorrow, Thursday, a mostly clear outlook is expected, with maximums of 38 degrees and minimums of 22. The wind will remain light from the southeast. On Friday, maximum temperatures will drop slightly to 37 degrees, but minimums will stay at 22.

Looking ahead to the weekend, AEMET forecasts mostly clear skies for both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, maximums will reach 36 degrees and minimums will be 23; Sunday will see similar temperatures. The wind will blow lightly from the east.

Recommendations for dealing with the heat

In light of the yellow alert, Civil Protection reminds the importance of drinking water frequently, even if not thirsty, and avoiding caffeinated or alcoholic beverages. It is also advised to stay in cool places, in the shade or air-conditioned, and to reduce intense physical activity.

In Manacor, the Town Hall has set up hydration points in the main squares and recommends residents check the municipal website for more information. Local health centres are preparing to attend to possible heat strokes, which may manifest as dizziness, nausea, or headaches.

For those working outdoors, such as farmers or builders, it is recommended to reschedule the toughest tasks for early morning or late evening. The agricultural employers' association has already warned that high temperatures may affect crops, especially fruit trees.

The heat also impacts electricity consumption. Endesa anticipates a demand peak in the Manacor area during the afternoon, so responsible use of air conditioning is recommended, maintaining a temperature of 24-26 degrees.

In the rest of the island, Palma will record maximums of 33 degrees and minimums of 26, with clear skies. In Castelldefels, a location mentioned in the source, cloudy intervals are expected with temperatures between 23 and 33 degrees.
