The 14-year-old from Santanyí triumphed over Natalia Ortega with a score of 6/0 7/6 in the final held this Sunday at the Club de Tenis La Magdalena.
The Mallorcan tennis player Caterina López Roig has added another title to her collection by winning the Mutua Madrid Open U16, a tournament held in Santander. The 14-year-old from Santanyí defeated Natalia Ortega in the final with a decisive 6/0 and 7/6, in a match she dominated from start to finish.
Three days of intense competition
The tournament, which took place on the courts of the Club de Tenis La Magdalena, brought together the best young talents in national tennis. Caterina, who arrived as one of the favourites, did not disappoint and showcased her quality on clay. The Mallorcan only dropped one set throughout the tournament, demonstrating a solidity that positions her as one of the most promising players of her generation.
After her victory, Caterina shared her joy on social media:

An ascending record
This triumph adds to an exceptional season for the young player from Santanyí. Just a week ago, she was crowned Spanish champion in doubles alongside Marina Ruiz Pérez, in addition to reaching the semifinals in singles. In spring, she won the Balearic Islands U14 championship, and in April she achieved the prestigious Conde de Godó U14 in Barcelona.
Caterina dedicated the title to her parents, who accompanied her during the tournament, and to her coach, Guillermo Oses, whom she thanked for “the daily work, the demands, and for always being there guiding me.” The tennis player was also called up by the Spanish national team for the Tennis Europe Summer Cups 2026, whose preliminary phase took place in Romania and the final in Italy.
Next stop: Caja Mágica
With this victory, Caterina López Roig has qualified for the final phase of the Mutua Madrid Open, which will be held in May at the Caja Mágica in Madrid, coinciding with the professional tournament. It will be a unique opportunity for the Mallorcan to compete against the best young players in the world on a top-level stage.
