The Calvià Town Hall, in Mallorca, has announced a special security and mobility operation for August 12, coinciding with the solar eclipse. Approximately 60 Local Police officers, along with Civil Protection personnel and other emergency resources, will be present to ensure the safety of attendees.

Objectives of the operation

This deployment aims to anticipate potential risk situations, regulate traffic, attend to emergencies, and ensure the functioning of essential services during this event that will attract a large influx of people to various areas of the municipality.

The plan was developed in a meeting of the Town Hall's working committee, where the final details regarding security, mobility, emergencies, fire prevention, as well as beach and coastline management were reviewed.

Traffic regulation and strategic points

One of the key components of the operation will be the regulation of traffic at six strategic points in Calvià. From these locations, the Local Police will manage circulation based on attendance, ensuring the mobility of public transport and emergency vehicles.

Traffic restrictions will be dynamic, and may be adjusted according to the occupancy of observation areas and the intensity of vehicle flow. The Chief Inspector of the Local Police, Antonio Pascual, has emphasized the importance of planning journeys to avoid congestion and facilitate the management of the operation.

Citizens are advised to avoid using private vehicles whenever possible and to opt for public transport, as traffic is expected to be significantly higher than usual.

The Official Observation Zone at Santa Ponça beach will have surveillance and aerial monitoring to control capacity and facilitate decision-making regarding access.

The Town Hall has also called for fire prevention, reminding that it is prohibited to make fires in forested areas and other risk locations during the eclipse day. Attendees are urged to act responsibly and follow the recommendations of emergency services.

The security operation will adapt throughout the day based on mobility and occupancy in different areas. Therefore, all residents and visitors are advised to stay informed through the Town Hall's official channels, including its website, social media, and WhatsApp channel.
