The Civil Guard is investigating the discovery of two lifeless bodies in Son Serra de Marina and sa Ràpita. One could be from a drifting boat.

The Civil Guard has opened two investigations following the discovery of two bodies at different points along the coast of Mallorca during Thursday. The bodies were found in the waters of Son Serra de Marina and sa Ràpita, and so far there are no indications that the two cases are related.

The first alert was registered in Son Serra de Marina, where a body in an advanced state of decomposition was located near the port around 6:00 PM. The condition of the corpse made initial identification difficult, with even the sex of the person unable to be determined.

Local police from Santa Margalida and the Civil Guard were dispatched to the scene. As they did not have a GEAS boat available at that moment, several surfers in the area assisted in bringing the body to the shore, where it was recovered by the authorities.

Among the hypotheses being considered is that the deceased could be an occupant of a drifting boat, possibly a patera, whose body may have been carried by the currents to the coast. This possibility has not been confirmed, and the autopsy will determine the identity and cause of death.

The second incident occurred in sa Ràpita, where around 11:45 AM a swimmer alerted authorities to a body floating in the water. It was a man approximately 85 years old who had already died when witnesses attempted to assist him. A Civil Guard patrol confirmed the death at the scene.

Investigators are considering that the elderly man may have suffered drowning or a medical issue while swimming. In both cases, the bodies have been transferred for the forensic doctor to perform the autopsy, the results of which will be crucial in clarifying what happened.

The two discoveries have mobilised emergency services and security forces along the Mallorcan coastline. There is currently no evidence linking the two cases, and investigations are proceeding separately to determine the circumstances of each death.
