Last Thursday, Phase I of the reform and improvement of the Peguera Boulevard in Calvià was inaugurated. This project aims to enhance the civic axis and tourist heart of the area.
The works, carried out this winter, cover a stretch of 300 meters from the corner with Gavines Street to the beginning of the boulevard. This project includes new asphalt, sidewalk renewal, improvements to the drainage system and the supply network for reclaimed water, as well as the installation of new urban furniture and landscaping.
Investment and Technology
Additionally, the boulevard has been modernised with technology for its integration into the DTI (Smart Tourist Destination) project, which involves the implementation of cameras, parking sensors, and other devices for effective space management, facilitating real-time data collection.
The mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, was present at the inauguration, along with other representatives from the local and regional government. Amengual highlighted the importance of investments in this project, which is funded by various institutions, including the Next Generation Funds of the European Union and the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS).
Future Improvement Phases
The total investment for Phase I amounts to €3.25 million, with €2 million coming from European funds. The renaturalisation of the Pinada has also been inaugurated, a project that required €600,000 in funding.
The mayor announced that the modernisation of the boulevard will continue in winter with Phase II, which is in the bidding process. The works will begin after the Challenge Peguera sports event, and a new pedestrian garden area is expected to be developed in the square on Ratolí Street.
Finally, the Consorci Borsa d’Allotjaments Turistics of the Mallorca Council will contribute €700,000 for the creation of this new space, representing a significant step towards the rehabilitation and continuous improvement of the area.
