Calvià Town Hall has signed an agreement to cover the cost of the fee for the Federation of Senior Associations of Mallorca for members of the 11 associations in the municipality, benefiting nearly 3,000 users.
Calvià Town Hall has taken a significant step in supporting the elderly by signing an agreement with the Federation of Pensioners, Retirees and Seniors Associations of Mallorca. The agreement, signed this week at municipal offices, establishes that the council will fully cover the payment of the Federation's fee for members of the 11 Senior Associations in the municipality. This measure will directly benefit nearly 3,000 users, who will see this expense disappear from their pockets.
The official event was attended by the mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual; the deputy mayor for Social Services, Juana María Prats; the head of the Elderly Department, Loli Godoy; and the president of the Federation, Joan Bibiloni. They all agreed on the importance of this institutional support for the elderly community.
A commitment to active seniors
Mayor Amengual did not hold back on praise for the community during his speech.
“The seniors of Calvià are an absolute priority within the policies of this government team. We are clear that an active and organised elderly community is undoubtedly a healthy elderly community. Furthermore, this institutional support is purely just: a recognition and gratitude from the entire municipality for all they have contributed and continue to contribute to Calvià.”The agreement, which has no precedent in the municipality, is part of a broader strategy by the Town Hall to strengthen the associative fabric of the elderly. The council has already begun a process of improving and modernising the facilities of the various associations, aiming to ensure comfortable, safe spaces adapted to their needs. The work includes improvements in accessibility and the conditioning of the facilities.
Bridging generations
However, the commitment to the elderly is not limited to the economic sphere. The Town Hall is also promoting active ageing through intergenerational relationships. Projects are being developed that connect seniors and young people in the municipality, involving the Llar de Calvià, public educational centres, the Youth Department, and the museum of the Archaeological Park of Puig de Sa Morisca. The idea is to create synergies where the experience of the elderly and the energy of the young can feed off each other in shared cultural and social spaces. The residents of Calvià can expect, in the coming months, joint activities that promote this exchange.
For the 3,000 members of the senior associations, the savings on the Federation's fee represent economic relief, but also recognition of their role in the community. The agreement has an initial duration of one year, which can be extended, and the Town Hall has already announced that it will continue working to improve the quality of life for this group. Those seeking more information can visit their local association or the Elderly Department of the council.
