A quad with two occupants has overturned inside the Sóller tunnel, without colliding with a car. The incident forced the road to close for over an hour, causing long traffic delays.

The Sóller tunnel remained closed to traffic for more than an hour this Thursday following an accident between a quad and a car. The incident occurred around 3:30 PM, when the quad, carrying two young people, grazed the right curb of the tunnel and ended up overturning. Although the two vehicles did not touch, the overturning blocked the road, creating traffic chaos at the entrances to the municipality.

After the alert, the Local Police of Sóller arrived at the scene, followed by units from the Civil Guard Traffic Division. The officers from the Benemérita took charge of managing the incident, allowing local police to attend to other emergencies in the town. One of the quad's occupants was injured, although the medical personnel who arrived at the scene classified her injuries as minor.

The main problem was that the accident vehicles blocked the interior of the tunnel, causing a huge accumulation of cars. Many drivers sought alternative routes via the Coll road, which further aggravated the congestion. Residents trying to leave the municipality found themselves trapped in long queues for over an hour.

At around 5:10 PM, the Civil Guard Traffic Division managed to reopen both lanes of the tunnel, so traffic is expected to gradually normalise. Authorities advise drivers to be patient and remind them of the importance of maintaining a safe distance in tunnels, where any incident can have serious consequences for traffic.

This accident highlights the vulnerability of traffic in Sóller, which relies heavily on the tunnel to connect the municipality with the rest of the island. In summer, with the increase in visitors, any incident on this road tends to cause significant delays.
