Alcúdia Beach raised the Blue Flag 2026 on Tuesday, an emblem that recognises its environmental quality and services. Additionally, the municipality has received a special mention for Universal Accessibility, being one of only three in Spain to obtain it.
Alcúdia Beach raised the Blue Flag 2026 on Tuesday, an award that certifies compliance with strict criteria for water quality, environmental management, safety, services, and environmental information. The event, held on the beach, also served to present the improvements that have earned the municipality the special mention for Universal Accessibility, awarded by the Blue Flag organisation.
Thus, Alcúdia becomes one of the three municipalities in Spain distinguished this year with this specific recognition, which highlights the measures taken to ensure that people with disabilities or reduced mobility can enjoy the coastline on equal terms.
Among the actions that have earned the mention are adapted walkways, accessible shaded areas, adapted changing rooms and toilets, assisted bathing services with amphibious chairs, and a specific route for visually impaired individuals. These initiatives aim to ensure that the beach is an inclusive space for all citizens and visitors.
The president of EMSA, Laura Serra, highlighted during the event that the Blue Flag is present in more than twenty European countries and that this year it has been awarded to 589 beaches and ports in Spain. Serra emphasised that the special mention recognises the effort made to offer an increasingly accessible and inclusive beach, a task that goes beyond the usual requirements of the emblem.
For her part, the mayor of Alcúdia, Fina Linares, stated that both the Blue Flag and the special mention are the result of work carried out throughout the year to maintain quality services and ensure an accessible beach for everyone. Linares thanked the efforts of municipal staff and collaborating entities.
The flag-raising event was also attended by the vice president of IMAS, Magdalena Garcia, and the councillor for the Environment, Francisco J. Rodríguez, among other authorities. The Blue Flag will fly at Alcúdia Beach during the summer season as a symbol of quality and commitment to the environment and inclusion.
For residents and tourists, this distinction guarantees that the beach meets the highest standards and that investments have been made to improve accessibility. People with reduced mobility can now access the water safely thanks to the amphibious chairs and adapted routes, making Alcúdia a benchmark for inclusive tourism in Mallorca.
The obtaining of the special mention reinforces the municipality's commitment to a sustainable and accessible tourism model, in line with European inclusion policies. The Town Hall plans to continue improving infrastructure to maintain this recognition in future editions.
