The shipping company of the Grimaldi group commemorates its fifth anniversary with a record of 700,000 passengers transported in 2025, 339,394 units of cargo and 165.4 million euros in revenue.
Trasmed, the Spanish shipping company of the Grimaldi group, has reached five years since its first crossing between the Balearics and the Peninsula. The company celebrated this Tuesday with an informative breakfast aboard the ship Ciudad de Sóller, which covers the route between Palma and Valencia, to review these five years of activity.
The Director of Institutional Relations of the Grimaldi Group in Spain, Miguel Pardo, highlighted that Trasmed "has strengthened its routes operated always with ships under Spanish flag, and has adapted to a constantly changing operational environment by promoting a business model focused on quality, efficiency, and sustainability."
The shipping company has grown steadily in five key areas: cargo transport, passenger mobility, sustainability and equality, adaptation to new ways of travelling, and economic results. In 2025, Trasmed transported over 700,000 passengers between the Peninsula and the Balearics, and moved 339,394 units of cargo, an increase of 2.25% compared to the previous year.
Seventy percent of its revenue comes from cargo transport, an essential service for supplying the archipelago. Nearly 117,000 tonnes are strategic goods for sectors such as healthcare (oxygen and medicinal gases), energy, or catering. For these transfers, the company has the Gubal Trader ship, specially adapted.
In the passenger sector, the remaining 30% of revenue, Trasmed has tailored its offer to travellers seeking overnight crossings or regular trips. A significant fact is that in 2025 it transported over 30,000 pets, with a pet-friendly approach endorsed by the FAADA Foundation, which includes adapted cabins, outdoor spaces, and areas with video surveillance accessible from mobile devices.
In terms of sustainability, the shipping company has reduced its accumulated emissions by 22,800 tonnes of CO₂ since 2024. The reorganisation of services has allowed an 11% reduction in fuel consumption and a 12% reduction in nautical miles without affecting the volume of goods. Additionally, since March 2025, the ship Ciudad de Palma has been using the OPS system in Barcelona, consuming over 722 MWh of renewable energy during its stops, eliminating emissions and reducing acoustic impact.
In the social sphere, 48% of Trasmed's workforce is made up of women, with representation in management and technical positions on board, such as captains or chief engineers. During 2025, the number of female workers on land increased by nearly 20% compared to the previous year.
Economically, the company expects to achieve a positive net result in 2026 and zero debt in 2027. In 2025, revenues reached 165.4 million euros, a 9.4% increase compared to 2024, with a positive EBITDA of 21.5 million.
Looking to the future, Trasmed faces the coming years with a roadmap focused on operational efficiency and sustainability, as stated by Trasmed's CEO, Ettore Morace: "On the routes between the Balearics and the Peninsula, connecting is not just about transporting people or goods, it is contributing to the daily activities of the islands being able to develop normally. We are proud to have demonstrated over these years that we are an essential service for the population."
