A fire declared on Thursday in Camí dels Reis has forced the suspension of metro services between this street and Parc Bit. The fire, now controlled, has not caused any injuries.
A scrub fire declared on Thursday at noon on Camí dels Reis in Palma has forced the closure of metro services between this road and Parc Bit in both directions. The measure, adopted by Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM), is due to the proximity of the flames to the railway infrastructure, as reported by the company through its social media.
The fire originated around 12:15 PM on a property near the Son Castelló industrial estate, according to the Palma City Council. Firefighters from Palma and local police have been dispatched to the scene, managing to control the flames after 1:00 PM. No one has been injured.
Emergency sources have indicated that the fire has also affected some pipes and an electrical cable, prompting firefighters to request the interruption of the electrical supply in the affected area. The causes of the fire are currently unknown.
Metro service suspended as a precaution
SFM has explained in a statement that the suspension of metro service between Camí dels Reis and Parc Bit has been implemented as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and railway staff. The company has not specified when services will resume, which will remain interrupted until conditions allow for a safe restart.
The interruption affects users who rely on this section of the line, especially those heading to the Son Castelló industrial estate and Parc Bit, where numerous companies and workplaces are concentrated. SFM advises passengers to check official channels for updates on service developments.
Controlled fire with no personal injuries
The Palma City Council has confirmed that the fire, which has burned an area of scrubland, is under control and has not caused any casualties. Firefighters remain in the area carrying out cooling tasks to prevent the flames from reigniting. The local police have cordoned off the area to facilitate extinguishing efforts.
This incident occurs in a context of wildfire risk on the island, although in this case, it is an agricultural fire. Authorities remind the importance of taking extreme precautions during agricultural tasks and not conducting burns without authorization.
So far, residents in the Son Sardina area and drivers on Camí dels Reis have not reported any major incidents, aside from the metro interruption and temporary road closures during extinguishing efforts. Metro service is expected to resume in the coming hours, once firefighters give the all-clear.
