Agents of the Local Police of Palma intercepted a woman who had stolen clothing and footwear worth nearly 600 euros from an establishment on Sant Miquel street. The arrested individual, who had cuts on her arms and neck, also carried 23 vapers without justification.

The Local Police of Palma arrested a woman last Tuesday accused of stealing numerous items of clothing and footwear valued at 600 euros from a commercial establishment on Sant Miquel street, in the heart of the city. The events occurred when a pedestrian patrol conducting surveillance was urgently called by the manager of a clothing store.

The worker informed the agents that, just seconds earlier, a woman had run out of the store with several items and was heading towards the Mercado del Olivar. The swift intervention allowed the police to initiate a chase that culminated on Felip Neri street, where they managed to intercept the suspect.

An express chase through the centre of Palma

The woman was carrying several hangers with clothes in her arms and a bag that she had also just stolen from inside the store, which she was using to hide the rest of the stolen items. Upon being arrested, she spontaneously admitted to being the author of the theft, according to police sources.

The agents, waiting for the store's security guard, counted the items by adding up the prices through the labels of each garment. The total value amounted to 599.66 euros, including women's and men's clothing, as well as the bag.

A surprising haul: 23 vapers without a receipt

In addition to the items from the fashion store, the acting force seized 23 electronic cigarettes, known as vapers, which were sealed in their respective boxes. The woman could not justify their origin nor provide the corresponding purchase receipt, so their origin is also under investigation.

During the operation, the agents observed that the alleged author had several cuts on both arms and a small cut on her neck, injuries that had stained the stolen clothing with blood. As the woman refused to cooperate or provide explanations at all times, it was impossible for the agents to determine the origin of these wounds.

Consequences for local commerce

The arrested woman was taken to police facilities for the processing of the corresponding proceedings. The quick action of the pedestrian patrol prevented the stolen material from leaving the commercial area, a relief for the establishments on Sant Miquel street, one of the busiest shopping arteries in Palma. Local merchants recall that such incidents, although sporadic, generate insecurity and economic losses, especially during periods of lower tourist influx.

The Local Police recommends that shopkeepers maintain vigilance and not hesitate to alert the agents in the face of any suspicious movement. The arrested woman will be brought before a judge in the coming hours, while it is investigated whether the seized vapers come from other thefts.
