Cabrera to Host the Municipalities with National Parks Conference

This autumn, Cabrera will host the 30th edition of AMUPARNA's conference, bringing together municipalities from across Spain with national park territories.

The mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, has welcomed the AMUPARNA board to prepare for the 30th edition, which will take place this autumn in Cabrera.

The Maritime-Terrestrial National Park of the Cabrera Archipelago will be the venue for the 30th edition of the Association of Municipalities with Territories in National Parks (AMUPARNA) this autumn. The meeting, which will include the Annual General Assembly, will bring together representatives from municipalities across Spain involved in the management of these protected areas.

This Friday, an institutional meeting was held at the Palma City Hall to prepare for the event. Participants included the mayor, Jaime Martínez Llabrés; the fifth deputy mayor and councillor for Natural Environment, Llorenç Bauzá; the president of AMUPARNA, Ángel Pérez Rodríguez; and the vice-president, Luz Goretti Gorrín.

The mayor expressed his satisfaction that Cabrera has been chosen as the venue, considering it an opportunity to highlight the natural, landscape, and environmental heritage of the national park. He also noted that it will strengthen collaboration among the municipalities that share the responsibility of conserving these areas.

During the meeting, the work of AMUPARNA, established in 1997, and the preparations for this thirtieth edition, which has become the main forum for exchanging experiences among municipalities with territories in national parks, were discussed.

The association currently comprises 105 member municipalities with territory in one of Spain's 16 national parks. Among them is Palma, through Cabrera, which is administratively managed by the City Council.

AMUPARNA aims to promote cooperation among local administrations, encourage the exchange of knowledge and best practices, and promote initiatives aimed at the conservation and sustainable development of the parks.

The conferences are held annually in the municipalities that contribute territory to the selected park as the venue. They provide a reference space to analyse the common challenges of local management of these protected areas and strengthen institutional collaboration.

This autumn's event will allow attendees to experience Cabrera's natural wealth firsthand and share experiences regarding the protection of the marine and terrestrial environment of the archipelago.
