The outdoor film cycle organised by the Palma City Council will offer 15 free films from August 3 to September 2 at Parc de les Estacions and Francesc Garcia i Orell square.

Summer nights in Palma will once again have the flavour of outdoor cinema. The City Council of the Balearic capital has presented the programme for Cinema a la Fresca 2026, which will take place from August 3 to September 2. In total, there will be 15 free screenings in two locations: Parc de les Estacions and Francesc Garcia i Orell square.

A lineup with titles for all tastes

The selection of films ranges from family comedies to silent film classics, including auteur cinema and Japanese animation. The cycle will kick off on August 3 at Parc de les Estacions with Padre no hay más que uno 5 by Santiago Segura. This will be followed by titles such as Casa en flames by Dani de la Orden; Sirat by Oliver Laxe; and the animated film Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League.

Also screening will be the musical Wicked, the Oscar-winning Anora, the animated film Com ensinistrar un drac, and the social drama El 47. One of the most anticipated films is Las chicas de la estación by Juana Macías, based on the real case of the sexual exploitation of minors in care that this newspaper uncovered.

Last three sessions at Francesc Garcia i Orell square

From August 31 to September 2, the cycle will move to Francesc Garcia i Orell square. There, you will be able to see Es gegant des Vedrà by Héctor Escandell; Un like de Bob Trevino by Tracie Laymon; and, to close, a very special session: the centenary of El maquinista de la general by Buster Keaton, released in 1926.

All sessions will begin at 21:00 hours and admission will be free until capacity is reached. The City Council recommends arriving early to secure a good spot in the areas equipped with chairs and space to bring your own deck chair.

For lovers of films in their original version, several movies will be screened in Catalan, Spanish or VOSE, as detailed on the municipal website palmacultura.es. Linguistic diversity is one of the attractions of a programme that aims to reach all audiences.

With this initiative, Palma joins the tradition of summer cinemas that many municipalities on the island recover each year. It’s a perfect opportunity to enjoy the good weather, the outdoors, and the seventh art without spending a euro. Can anyone offer more?
