The National Police have arrested five men accused of drug trafficking in various neighbourhoods of Palma. Two of them were caught trying to sell marijuana to two minors in Son Gotleu.
The National Police have detained five men for their alleged involvement in drug sales at several locations in Palma. The arrests took place during different operations carried out over the past week, according to the Balearic Police Headquarters.
Two of the detainees were caught in the act while attempting to sell marijuana to two minors in the Son Gotleu neighbourhood. A third was intercepted at the Intermodal Station with over half a kilo of marijuana in his possession.
Sales to minors in Son Gotleu
The first operation took place last Tuesday in Son Gotleu. Plainclothes officers observed two girls giving money to two men. After following the suspects, the police stopped them. The detainees admitted that the minors had asked them to buy marijuana and were heading to a nearby sales point.
One of the alleged perpetrators was carrying traces of tusi and small bags for distributing drugs, as well as about 350 euros in small denominations. The minors confirmed the events to another officer. Both were arrested for a drug trafficking offence.
Controls in Son Banya and Playa de Palma
Hours later, the Prevention and Reaction Unit conducted a check near the Son Banya settlement. The passenger of a vehicle admitted he had just bought hashish. He was found with a hoodie between his legs containing hashish and cocaine, as well as 450 euros in small denominations. He was arrested as a suspected drug trafficker.
Days later, during another check in Playa de Palma, officers intercepted a car that attempted to flee. Inside, they found a bag containing eight doses of cocaine. The owner of the drugs was arrested.
Half a kilo at the Intermodal Station
Meanwhile, officers from the Mobile Brigade-Transport Police, deployed in Palma for summer reinforcement, detected a man with a strong smell of marijuana at the Intermodal Station. Upon searching him, they found more than half a kilo of marijuana and several amounts of hashish. He was arrested for drug trafficking.
The arrests are part of the Citizen Security measures against drug trafficking. The five detainees have been placed at the disposal of the judiciary. The Police remind citizens that they can report any suspicious activity via 091 or the Alertcops app.
