The National Police have arrested a man in Palma accused of sexually assaulting a minor, whom he allegedly threatened to kill her parents to keep her silent.
The National Police have detained a man in Palma accused of raping a minor, the granddaughter of his former partner. The arrest took place last Sunday after the victim's family alerted the authorities, who immediately went to the home where several relatives live.
It was the girl's grandmother who discovered the situation after hearing strange noises in the suspect's room. Upon entering, she found both of them semi-naked from the waist down, although the man and the minor tried to cover up by saying they were changing clothes.
According to relatives who spoke to the Police, the abuse had been ongoing for some time. What started with touching escalated to full sexual intercourse, and the individual had kept the minor under coercion to ensure her silence.
The threats were constant: he warned her not to tell anyone, threatening to harm her loved ones and to kill her parents. The fear that he would carry out his threats is what kept the victim silent all this time.
When identified at the residence, the suspect openly admitted to having abused the minor and having had sexual relations with her, according to sources from the investigation.
Following that statement, the agents took him to the facilities of the Family and Women's Care Unit (UFAM), where statements were taken from the affected parties and a search was conducted in the suspect's room to fully clarify the facts.
The case is now in the hands of the judicial authority, which will decide on the arrested individual's situation. Meanwhile, the minor and her family are receiving assistance from social services and specialized units of the National Police.
