A Colombian man has been arrested in Palma as the alleged perpetrator of an attempted homicide after stabbing another man in the abdomen during a fight in the Fra Joan Alcina square, in Son Gotleu. The victim underwent emergency surgery.

The National Police have arrested a man of Colombian origin in Palma as the alleged author of an attempted homicide, after stabbing another man in the abdomen during a public argument. The victim suffered serious injuries and had to undergo surgery.

The events occurred on June 30, around 1:30 a.m., in the Fra Joan Alcina square, located in the Son Gotleu neighbourhood. Several patrols were mobilised after receiving a report alerting that a man had been stabbed and was seriously injured in the street.

The victim, lying on the ground

Upon arrival, the officers found the victim lying on the ground while being assisted by several passers-by. The man had a deep stab wound in the abdominal area and was losing a significant amount of blood, prompting the request for an ambulance that urgently transported him to a hospital, where he underwent surgery.

While some police officers attended to the injured man, other patrols located the alleged attacker, who was being held by several citizens until the officers arrived.

Two knives and a controversial account

According to the National Police, the detainee claimed that it was the victim who initially tried to stab him, failing to do so, and that he subsequently responded by delivering the stab.

During the intervention, the officers found a first knife when they intercepted the suspect. They also confirmed that he was attempting to dispose of a second knife, which was recovered after they heard it fall inside the police vehicle.

A drug-related settling of accounts

Several witnesses explained to investigators that both men had been involved in a heated argument while walking down the street moments before the attack.

Additionally, some witnesses indicated that the detainee had been looking for the victim for several days because he had allegedly sold him bad drugs. The National Police specified that this circumstance is part of the investigation being carried out by the Homicide Group to clarify the exact origin of the confrontation and the reasons for the attack.
