More than half a thousand people gathered this Sunday in front of the Moroccan Consulate in Palma to reject the migration crisis and show their support for Ceuta and Melilla. The protest took place without incidents.
On Sunday afternoon, over 500 people met on Anselm Turmeda street, in front of the Moroccan Consulate in Palma, to protest against the "invasion and migration crisis" and express their backing for the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla.
The mobilization, called under the slogan "¡Defendamos España! Todos con Ceuta y Melilla", was part of a series of simultaneous protests held in various Spanish cities, including Ceuta, Madrid, and Barcelona. Attendees came with Spanish flags and some carried crucifixes.
During the event, chants such as "Pedro Sánchez, resign" and "Christian Spain and not Muslim" were heard, along with other shouts against the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska. Among the attendees were members of Vox, such as national deputy Jorge Campos and the party's spokesperson in the Balearic Parliament, Manuela Cañadas.
The gathering proceeded peacefully, without incidents, under the supervision of a large security operation made up of the Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR), the Motorized Unit (Rayos) of the National Police, and the Local Police of Palma.
Luis Zamora, one of the organizers, stated that the initiative aimed to be civic and free from partisan interests. "Spain is not about the right or the left. We must ask ourselves if we want this country of corrupt, indicted, and detained people," he declared.
Sources from the Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands indicated that the call had not been officially communicated through legal channels, so the agency had no formal record of its celebration. The protest adds to others demanding more stringent measures for border control, in a context of migration tension in the country.
