The Palma City Council has completed the improvement works at Can Alonso square, with new shaded areas, vegetation, and a revamped access, responding to community demands.
The Palma City Council has finalised the latest improvement actions at Can Alonso square, a public space that has received nearly €80,000 in investment since 2023. The works, completed in July, have expanded shaded areas, reinforced accessibility, and increased vegetation, thus addressing the requests of local residents.
The Councillor for Infrastructure and Accessibility, Belén Soto, and the Councillor for Mobility, Antonio Deudero, recently visited the square accompanied by community representatives to check the results of the interventions. The visit also included the manager of SMAP, Lydia Pérez, and the general coordinator of Infrastructure and Accessibility, Juanjo Lemm.
The most recent action, with an investment of over €10,000, involved the remodelling of the main access to the community centre. The old staircase has been demolished, and two new sections have been constructed aligned with the building's doors, equipped with stainless steel handrails, non-slip strips, and marked steps to facilitate safer access.
Additionally, ten shading sails have been installed, generating approximately 120 square metres of shade over the square. These works, carried out in three days, involved an investment of €1,500 and contribute to improving the thermal comfort of the space during the hottest months.
Regarding vegetation, three new planters have been placed under the pergola, planted with bougainvilleas, which increases the greenery in the area. These improvements add to others initiated in previous years, such as the installation in 2025 of a 40-metre-long shading pergola with a stainless steel structure, as well as the creation of a children's play area and another with health equipment.
With this set of interventions, the Palma City Council reaffirms its commitment to improving local public spaces, addressing the needs of residents. Can Alonso square, located in front of the community centre, thus becomes a more accessible and comfortable place for the daily lives of residents.
