The Govern and the Consell of Mallorca sign a free land transfer agreement to Palma on Monday, aimed at promoting public housing. The event will take place at 11:00 at the Consolat de Mar.

The Balearic Govern and the Consell of Mallorca take a new step to expand the public housing stock in Palma. President Marga Prohens and President Llorenç Galmés will sign a free land transfer agreement to the municipality, which will be used for the promotion and construction of protected flats.

The event, scheduled for 11:00 at the Consolat de Mar, will also be attended by the Mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez; the Councillor for Housing, Territory and Mobility, José Luis Mateo; the director of Ibavi, Roberto Cayuela; and the general director of Sports, Juan Antonio Ramonell.

This measure is part of the institutions' strategy to ease access to housing in the Balearic capital. It complements the Palma City Council's announcement to build 140 social housing units in the former prison, which has already been vacated and sealed off, and the approval of the preliminary project to convert that space into a temporary professional residence.

The municipal spokesperson, Mercedes Celeste, explained that the Governing Board has also given the green light to start the contracting process to draft the basic and execution project for the works. Before the comprehensive renovation, the Urban Planning department is working with the Consell on a roundabout and a new access from the Vía de Cintura at the height of the Cas Capiscol neighbourhood, a priority action for mobility.

The flats built on this land will be aimed at professional groups struggling to find affordable accommodation in Palma. The signing on Monday solidifies the collaboration between the Govern, Consell, and City Council to promote new developments in the municipality.
