The National Police have arrested two teenagers who were riding a stolen motorcycle through La Soledat and the Paseo Marítimo, endangering pedestrians and drivers.

The National Police in Palma have detained two minors after a chase that began in the La Soledat neighbourhood and extended along the Paseo Marítimo and other streets in the city. The youths, who were riding a stolen motorcycle, engaged in a reckless escape that included driving the wrong way, running red lights, and invading sidewalks and bike lanes.

The events occurred last Thursday afternoon when a patrol from the Citizen Attention Group (GAC) observed two young individuals on a motorcycle that appeared to be ridden by very young people. Upon receiving the order to stop, the driver fled at high speed.

During the escape, the motorcycle grazed a parked car, mounted the sidewalk putting pedestrians at risk, and continued along a bike lane. The chase moved to the Paseo Marítimo, where the minors dodged vehicles, ran red lights, and invaded the opposite lane, narrowly avoiding a head-on collision with other drivers.

Another police unit attempted to block their path on Jaume III street, but the youths evaded the police vehicle and continued the wrong way towards Avenida Argentina. Several patrols joined the operation to corner the fugitives, maintaining the necessary safety measures.

The chase concluded when the motorcycle collided with a moving car and rebounded against another parked vehicle. The two teenagers abandoned the motorcycle and attempted to flee on foot. The passenger was intercepted and immobilised on the spot by the officers, while the driver managed to escape momentarily.

Subsequent checks confirmed that the motorcycle had been stolen outside the municipality of Palma and showed tampering with the ignition system. The first minor arrested was placed at the disposal of the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, charged with the crime of vehicle theft for use.

The following day, after intensive efforts by the same intervening patrols, the officers located and arrested the motorcycle driver, who is charged with the crimes of vehicle theft for use and reckless driving.

The police action has been positively assessed by local residents, who alerted to the danger posed by reckless driving in urban areas. The National Police reminds the importance of reporting any suspicious activity to prevent such incidents.

Both minors have been placed at the disposal of the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, which will decide on the measures to be taken. The incident did not result in any injuries, although there was material damage to the vehicles involved.
