The Local Police of Palma has arrested two Algerians aged 26 and 27 accused of stealing from bathers at Can Pere Antoni beach during the early hours of Thursday.

Two young men, aged 26 and 27, both of Algerian nationality, were arrested by the Local Police of Palma as presumed authors of several thefts committed against tourists at Can Pere Antoni beach. The events occurred around 03:30 hours on Thursday, July 9, when a citizen alerted a patrol from the Preventive Action Group (GAP) after observing suspicious behaviour.

According to the Local Police, the suspects were riding an electric scooter, which facilitated their identification. The officers located them on the bike lane of Felicià Fuster street and, during a superficial search, found various stolen items hidden among their clothes: a high-end mobile phone, a camera, wireless headphones, portable chargers, and cash in euros and pounds sterling.

Thefts on the beach during the early hours

Additionally, the police found two bags hidden behind a nearby fence containing documentation and other personal effects. At that moment, three foreign tourists who were at the same beach reported being victims of a theft and identified all the recovered items as their property. The total value of the stolen items exceeds 400 euros, according to the Local Police.

The detainees were taken to police facilities and are charged with theft. The investigation remains open to determine if they are linked to other similar thefts that have occurred in the area in recent weeks.

Advice for bathers in Palma

The Local Police recommend that users of Palma's beaches, especially at night, do not leave valuables unattended and report any suspicious activity. Can Pere Antoni is one of the busiest urban beaches in the city, and thefts tend to increase during the high season.

The two arrested individuals will be brought before a judge in the coming hours. The Palma City Council has reminded that citizen collaboration was key in this arrest.
