The Mayor of Campos, Francisca Porquer, appeared this Sunday at the human chain in defence of es Trenc, where she was met with boos and shouts of 'fora' from the protesters. Her presence generated a brief but intense clash with the organisers.
The human chain that surrounded the Natural Park of es Trenc this Sunday to demand its protection experienced a moment of maximum tension when the Mayor of Campos, Francisca Porquer (PP), burst into the area where the writer Sebastià Alzamora was reading the manifesto. Her arrival triggered boos, whistles, and slogans like "es Trenc no es toca" among the thousands of attendees.
Porquer positioned herself in front of the media cameras while Alzamora tried to conclude the reading. The mayor exchanged accusations with several organisers and, according to witnesses, ironically chanted the protest slogans and blew kisses to the protesters in a gesture that many interpreted as mocking.
A confrontation that forced the organisers to intervene
In response to the public's reaction, the people holding the main banner stepped in front of Porquer to shield her and allow the writer to finish the manifesto without further interruptions. Shortly after, the mayor moved a few metres away while the boos continued, and the event was able to conclude without further incidents.
Porquer was accompanied by several people, some of whom also engaged in verbal exchanges with attendees. According to several witnesses, some of her companions argued that they were indeed residents of Campos, while questioning that a large part of the attendees came from outside the municipality. One of them even reproached the protesters that if they were "so ecological," they should not leave the beach with sand on their feet.
This is not the first time the mayor has faced activists
This is not the first time the mayor has had a confrontation with activists during a protest related to the territory. In 2021, during the inauguration of the highway between Llucmajor and Campos, she had a tense exchange with several protesters opposed to the infrastructure.
The day was also marked by the appearance of several graffiti at various points around es Trenc, including the bunker located next to the beach. Among the messages were slogans such as "Not a grain of sand to capital," "From the island of calm to the island of struggle," or "We are the island defending itself." The mayor denounced the vandalism through her social media, where she claimed that "es Trenc was already saved, but today it has suffered another attack."
The president of the Govern, Marga Prohens, also condemned the damage and emphasised that "if es Trenc is not to be touched, neither is its heritage nor its bunker."
The human chain, called by various ecological and social entities, managed to gather thousands of people who, despite the incident, maintained a reivindicative and peaceful tone. The organisers have announced that they will continue to mobilise to ensure the protection of the natural park.
