The Manacor Town Hall presented a DJI Matrice 4T drone on Thursday for surveillance, emergency, and traffic control tasks. The device, equipped with a thermal camera and live streaming capabilities, will be operated by trained officers.
Since Thursday, the Local Police of Manacor has had a state-of-the-art drone, the DJI Matrice 4T, which strengthens security, surveillance, and emergency operations in the municipality. The equipment, presented at the Local Police headquarters, will allow for high-resolution aerial images, even in low-light conditions, thanks to its thermal camera and advanced sensors.
The presentation event was attended by the Local Police delegate, Sebastià Llodrà; the Porto Cristo delegate, Antònia Llodrà; the chief of the Local Police, Pere Taberner; officer Antoni Garvi; and agent Javier Calero. They all highlighted the usefulness of the device in improving operational coordination and the safety of the officers.
The professional-use drone is equipped with measurement and mapping tools that enable the generation of three-dimensional models of the terrain. This will be particularly useful in reconstructing traffic accidents, as officers will be able to analyse trajectories and maintain a detailed digital representation of the site, speeding up data collection and reducing the time needed to restore traffic.
One of the main innovations is the ability to stream live images to police commanders during operations. This allows for real-time monitoring of actions, assessing each situation with greater precision, and coordinating resources more efficiently. The tool will be key in emergencies, special traffic operations, large events, searches for missing persons, or interventions in hard-to-reach areas.
The drone will also be used to monitor areas where illegal dumping of waste, rubbish, or debris occurs, as well as to check compliance with municipal ordinances. Aerial surveillance will be particularly effective in rural roads, vacant lots, ravines, coastal areas, and other difficult-to-access locations. Additionally, in the future, it is expected to be used to control attendance at parties, fairs, concerts, sports events, and other gatherings, facilitating access supervision and incident detection.
The thermal camera expands operational possibilities in search operations for missing persons, night-time actions, fires, or inspections of areas affected by storms and flooding. It will also allow for the assessment of municipal infrastructure without exposing officers to unnecessary risks.
The incorporation of the DJI Matrice 4T marks the first step towards creating a drone unit within the Local Police of Manacor. According to municipal sources, there are plans to expand this service with new equipment, batteries, communication systems, and other resources that will enhance operational capacity. The implementation of various uses will be gradual and linked to the development of the corresponding protocols, always in accordance with current regulations on security, data protection, and privacy.
The officers responsible for piloting the drone already hold the STS certification, corresponding to standard European scenarios, which certifies the theoretical and practical training necessary to operate drones legally and safely. With this initiative, the Manacor Town Hall continues to modernise the resources of the Local Police, betting on technological innovation in the service of public safety and territorial protection.
