The young Mallorcan girl, 11 years old, who took the stage with the rocker at Starlite Marbella, gives her first interview to a media outlet. Mia Rosario Vis Guerrero talks about her passion for music and her encounter with the artist.
Mia Rosario Vis Guerrero is eleven years old, born in Port d’Andratx, and has just experienced something that many musicians dream of their whole lives: sharing the stage with Lenny Kravitz. The young girl, who is part of the band Killers of Silence, has become a little sensation after the American rocker invited her to sing with him during the Starlite Festival in Marbella.
Now, Mia gives her first interview to a media outlet. Sitting in a café with her parents, Jantie Vis and Isabella Guerrero, the girl shows an unusual confidence for her age. “I want to keep making music. Singing and sharing the stage with my friends. I enjoy rehearsals as much as performances,” she states.
The story with Kravitz was not a coincidence. The Vis Guerrero family has been dedicated to the world of vintage glasses for over twenty years, a business that has allowed them to collaborate with stylists and international productions. Thanks to that work, they have met the artist on several occasions. “He has always treated us with great respect and closeness. He knew Mia since she was little and every time we saw him, he would ask about her,” explains her father.
A few weeks ago, Isabella Guerrero travelled to Paris to bring a selection of glasses to Kravitz. During the conversation, the musician asked about Mia, and her mother took the opportunity to show him some videos of the girl singing with her band. “He watched it closely and exclaimed ‘She’s got it’,” recalls Jantie Vis. Kravitz encouraged Mia to join the rehearsal with his entire band and told her that what impressed him the most was her kindness. “When saying goodbye, he said: I hope to see you on the tour… maybe we can play together in Marbella,” she adds.
The encounter became a reality at Starlite Marbella. Mia took the stage and sang alongside Kravitz. At the end of the night, the artist addressed the audience and declared: “Mia is the future of rock and roll.” The girl, far from feeling overwhelmed, took it in her stride. “It was so much fun. Lenny is very kind and made me feel comfortable,” she recounts.
Mia grew up in a home where music has always been present. Her paternal grandfather was a music producer and worked with jazz legends like Miles Davis and Charlie Parker. “At home, we have never understood music as a profession, but as a way of life. There have always been guitars, records playing, and conversations about music,” explains her father. “She sang before she could read and write. We never had to encourage her; it was the most natural way for her to express herself.”
The young girl began her training at London Rocks, a school she considers fundamental to her growth. There she learned the value of being part of a band, and Killers of Silence was born, with which she has performed in venues like La Movida. She also sporadically sings with the Port d’Andratx group Barrilete Cósmico.
Her parents are clear that the goal is not success, but passion. “If one day she decides to pursue music professionally, we will be proud; and if not, we will be too. The important thing is that she never stops feeling the happiness she feels when she sings,” Jantie Vis emphasizes.
For now, Mia continues with her routine: school, rehearsals, and performances. The experience with Kravitz has not changed her. “I just want to keep making music and share the stage with my friends,” she repeats with a smile. And who knows if the future of rock and roll, as Lenny Kravitz predicted, has a Mallorcan accent.
