The Local Police in Palma are investigating a 66-year-old man for an alleged crime against privacy after he filmed a 20-year-old woman with his mobile phone during the journey from Inca to Palma.
The Local Police in Palma have opened an investigation into a 66-year-old man, of Spanish nationality, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against privacy. The events occurred on August 4, when the individual allegedly filmed a 20-year-old woman without her consent during a train journey from Inca to Palma.
According to the victim's account, the man sat in front of her and began to stare at her. The situation did not alarm her at first, but upon reaching the Pont d'Inca station, a passenger leaving the carriage warned her that the individual was secretly filming her with his mobile phone.
Fearing a violent reaction, the young woman decided not to confront him and remained in her seat. During the journey, she managed to take a photograph of the alleged perpetrator without him noticing, an image that she later handed over to the officers.
Upon arriving at the Intermodal Station of Palma, in the Plaza de España, the young woman quickly got off the train and sought help from a security guard, who advised her to go to the Local Police station. The victim reported what had happened to officers from the Immediate Intervention Unit (UII), who went to the platforms accompanied by the young woman.
At that moment, the guard informed the officers that he had already detained the suspect. The police identified the man, who appeared nervous. During the intervention, the suspect allegedly spontaneously admitted to the facts and claimed it was the first time he had acted in such a manner and that he would not do it again. He was then charged.
The man voluntarily handed over his mobile phone to the officers. On the device, the police found images and videos of the young woman. The officers made a copy of the graphic material using a corporate phone to include it as evidence in the police proceedings.
Subsequently, according to the Local Police, the officers observed how the suspect deleted files from the gallery and the recycle bin of the mobile phone in their presence.
The Reports Room informed the parties of the proceedings and accompanied the young woman so she could file the corresponding complaint. The entire case has been forwarded to the Guard Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance, where the responsibilities that may arise from the events will be determined.
This incident occurs in a context of growing concern about safety in public transport, and the authorities remind the importance of reporting such situations. The Local Police in Palma encourages anyone who has witnessed or been a victim of a similar incident to report it to the authorities.
