The Town Hall of Marratxí has awarded the shadow and improvement project for the Town Hall square in sa Cabaneta, with an investment of €248,346.51. The initiative aims to transform the space into a climate refuge and enhance its use throughout the year.
The Town Hall of Marratxí has green-lighted the shadow and improvement works for the Town Hall square, located in the heart of sa Cabaneta. The project, awarded for an amount of €248,346.51, has an execution period of six months and is part of the municipal strategy to create climate refuges that mitigate high summer temperatures.
The intervention will provide the square with new shaded areas and improve its accessibility, aiming for residents to enjoy the space throughout the year. Until now, the extreme heat during the summer months limited its use during the peak hours of the day, making it a little-frequented place during that time frame.
The mayor of Marratxí, Jaume Llompart, has stated that "we continue to transform our public spaces to adapt them to new climate needs and improve the quality of life for residents. We want squares and parks to be enjoyed all year round, especially in summer, offering more comfortable, safe, and accessible spaces for families."
This initiative is part of the 2023-2027 Children's Parks Renovation Plan, which the Town Hall completed this week for its 2026 edition. The improvements have included the renovation and shading of six children's parks and one square, spread across different areas of the municipality. The investment allocated to these actions amounts to €333,680.23.
The parks that have benefited are those in Son Daviu-Es Garrovers, sa Planera, Can Carbonell, Cas Capità, es Figueral, and sa Cabaneta, as well as the Bartomeu Riera square in sa Cabana. In all of them, new shade covers have been installed, the rubber flooring has been renewed, new play elements and recreational tables have been incorporated, and equipment has been replaced to make them more modern, safe, and accessible.
The councillor for Contracting, Juan Antonio Estarellas, has highlighted that "these actions represent a new step in the execution of the projects planned by the Town Hall to improve public spaces in the municipality. We continue to meet the established deadlines so that investments quickly become actions that directly benefit residents."
Estarellas explained that both the improvement of the Town Hall square and the actions in the children's parks are part of a global strategy to enhance public spaces, combining sustainability, accessibility, and functionality criteria to offer modern facilities prepared for the future.
Mayor Llompart added that "these investments respond to a way of governing that places people at the centre of municipal action. Creating climate refuges and improving our parks and squares is also a way to care for our residents and make a more sustainable and future-ready municipality."
With these actions, Marratxí continues to develop its strategy for improving squares, parks, and communal spaces, betting on a friendlier, more resilient municipality adapted to high temperatures. The creation of new shaded areas and the renovation of children's spaces consolidate the municipal commitment to the well-being of families and the continuous improvement of public spaces.
