The Consell de Mallorca inaugurated this Friday in Sa Pobla the rehabilitation of the Can Planes Museum and the renovation of the tourist and commercial axis of the centre, with a total investment of €1.1 million funded by Next Generation funds.

The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, and the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosario Sánchez, accompanied by the mayor of Sa Pobla, Biel Ferragut, presented two key projects for the municipality this Friday. These are the rehabilitation of the Can Planes Museum and the reform of the axis connecting the Mercat square with the Major square, an investment amounting to €1.1 million from European Next Generation funds.

The Can Planes Museum, located in the heart of Sa Pobla, has received a budget of around €500,000 to improve its energy efficiency. The works have included the incorporation of thermal insulation in facades, roofs, and enclosures, which will allow for significant savings in the building's energy consumption. Additionally, the Tourist Information Office has been relocated to the building, and new spaces have been created for cultural, educational, and family activities.

A more efficient museum open to the public

With this rehabilitation, the Can Planes Museum not only gains in sustainability but also expands its offerings. Locals and visitors will be able to enjoy a renovated space that will host exhibitions and workshops. The Tourist Office, now integrated into the museum, will provide information about the attractions of the region. The goal, according to the Consell, is to enhance cultural tourism and de-seasonalise the arrival of visitors.

The second project, with a budget of €510,000, has involved the renovation of the area connecting the Mercat square with the Major square. The Mercat street has been improved, urban furniture has been renewed, and the connection between public transport and the commercial and gastronomic areas of the municipality has been strengthened. This represents a notable change for residents, who now have a more accessible and attractive space for walking and shopping.

A boost for local commerce and mobility

The reform of the commercial axis aims to stimulate the local economy. Local merchants have expressed their satisfaction with the improvement of the streets, which they hope will attract more customers. Furthermore, the connection with public transport will facilitate access for those coming from other towns. The mayor, Biel Ferragut, has highlighted that these actions “improve the quality of life for the residents and make Sa Pobla a more attractive destination.”

During the event, Llorenç Galmés defended collaboration between administrations to develop projects that benefit citizens. “Investing in heritage and public spaces is investing in the future,” he stated. For her part, the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosario Sánchez, emphasised that these European funds are allowing “municipalities to transform towards a more sustainable and diversified tourism model.”

These actions are part of a broader strategy by the Consell to promote sustainable tourism in Mallorca. Sa Pobla, with its renewed cultural and commercial offerings, hopes to attract visitors interested in authenticity and away from mass tourism. Locals, for their part, are already enjoying a more pleasant centre.

The works have recently concluded, and both the museum and the commercial axis are now operational. Those wishing to visit the renovated Can Planes can do so from Tuesday to Saturday, during morning and afternoon hours.
