Portocolom and Felanitx are experiencing weeks of intense festive activity with Carme, Sant Jaume, and Santa Margalida. Music, tradition, sport, and activities for all audiences fill the calendar.
The towns of Felanitx and Portocolom are preparing for a July and early August packed with celebrations. The festivals of Carme and Sant Jaume on the coast, and those of Santa Margalida in the urban centre, turn the Llevant region into a hive of activity.
Portocolom: Maritime Tradition and Festive Atmosphere
The coastal hub of Portocolom kicks off the celebrations with the feast of the Mare de Déu del Carme. This Thursday, the mass, the maritime procession, and the Fira Marinera in sa Capella will be the central events.
The programme goes beyond the religious. It includes a summer lecture series on local history, family workshops on pop-up books, the traditional nit de llanternes, and screenings of documentaries such as Hatua or Silenciades.
Music will play a significant role with the Vetllades de Música Antiga in the parish and the Concert de Sant Jaume by the Felanitx Music Band. This will be complemented by the children's and adults' correfoc by the Espiadimonis, the grand fireworks display, and the popular verbenas in sa Bassa Nova.
Community life is strengthened with the Mercat Artesà d’Estiu every Friday and the traditional Sopar a la Fresca in the streets of the port, an event that reinforces the neighbourhood spirit of Portocolom.
Sport and the natural environment complete the offer with the swimming crossing to the port, the golf tournament, guided snorkelling activities, the Urban Mile, and the Popular Triathlon.
Felanitx Goes All Out for Santa Margalida
Between the festivals of Carme and Sant Jaume, the spotlight shifts to Felanitx, which celebrates its patron saint, Santa Margalida. The weekend of July 18 to 20 concentrates the main events.
Notable is the Gran Revista de Madò Pereta, celebrating its 25th anniversary, and the parade featuring traditional dances of Cavallets, gegants, dimonis, and caparrots. The more solemn aspect arrives with the Completes and the Eucharist.
One of the most anticipated moments will be the grand Revetla de Santa Margalida on Sunday, July 19, in the plaça de sa Font, featuring performances by The Margarettes.
For the residents of Felanitx and Portocolom, these festivals are an opportunity for community and to keep traditions alive. Additionally, they attract visitors from all over the island looking to enjoy the summer atmosphere.
The festive calendar extends into early August, providing both residents and tourists with multiple options to participate.
