The establishment, located on Miquel Capllonch street, near the conservatory, communicated the news through an emotional message on Facebook that has already received dozens of expressions of affection from customers and locals.
“There are decisions that are never easy, and this is one of them,” begins the text, signed by the owning family. The venue, which was awarded the prize for best classic bar in the Balearics in 2026, will close its doors after a holiday from which they will not return to the kitchen.
However, the farewell may not be final: the family is negotiating with several interested parties for a possible handover of the business. If these discussions bear fruit, the venue could reopen under new management, keeping the essence of the variat alive.
“After so many years in the kitchen, the time has come to close our doors and say goodbye to a chapter that has marked our lives,” the statement notes. The bar has been a meeting point for generations of locals, who came to taste its uncommon specialties in Ciutat.
Among its star dishes were the octopus pica-pica, beef tongue with capers, and above all, the frit de sang, a recipe that had become the establishment's hallmark. The variat, a Mallorcan tradition of tapas, found in Can Biel Felip one of its last strongholds in the capital.
