The National Police arrested on Thursday the alleged perpetrator of two vehicle thefts in the car park of Palma airport. The man, who lacked a license, also damaged one of the stolen cars.

The National Police have detained a man accused of stealing two vehicles in the car park of Palma airport, driving without a license, and causing damage to one of the cars. The arrest took place last Thursday, according to the Balearic Superior Police Headquarters.

The incidents occurred in early and mid-July, when the suspect took advantage of several cars being left open to steal them. In the first attempt, some tourists who had rented the car caught the man tampering with it, and he apologised as if it had been a mistake.

The second theft was carried out with the same modus operandi in the same facilities. Investigators managed to identify the alleged perpetrator after several inquiries and activated his search and arrest.

A patrol from the National Police's Citizen Attention Group located the suspect on Thursday and proceeded with his arrest. Subsequently, the Judicial Police Group of the airport station confirmed that he lacked a driving license and had damaged one of the stolen vehicles.

The detainee has been placed at the disposal of the judiciary, and the investigation remains open to determine if he is linked to other thefts in the area. Palma airport is thus reinforcing surveillance in its car parks, a common site for thefts during the peak tourist season.

The National Police recommends that car park users do not leave their keys in the vehicle or the vehicle open, and report any suspicious activity. Those affected by these thefts can file their complaints at the airport station to expedite the recovery of their vehicles.
