The British Airways flight BA498 landed in Palma with members of the Saudi royalty and their entourage. Fifteen luxury suitcases and several diplomatic bags were unloaded, in a display reminiscent of two weeks ago.
The island is once again welcoming the Saudi elite. This Saturday, British Airways flight BA498 arrived at Palma-Son Sant Joan Airport from London-Heathrow, carrying several members of the Saudi royal family and their entourage. The plane touched down at 17:49 hours, and from the very beginning, the security and protocol operation was set in motion.
What stood out the most was, once again, the volume of luggage. Around fifteen large luxury suitcases were unloaded from the hold, along with several supposed diplomatic bags. The movement did not go unnoticed by airport workers, emergency teams, and members of the State Security Forces present in the area.
The scene mirrored that experienced just fifteen days ago, when another delegation also arriving from London-Heathrow came to Palma with 48 large suitcases, several identified with the Saudi Embassy, and various diplomatic bags. On that occasion, the members accessed directly to the Authorities' Lounge of the airport, where the National Police carried out document checks and the Civil Guard conducted fiscal and customs inspections of the luggage.
The only items exempt from inspection were the diplomatic bags, whose inviolability is recognised by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
Police sources remind us that the presence of members of the Saudi royal family in Mallorca during the summer months is relatively frequent. These trips are conducted under strict coordination protocols between the Saudi Embassy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Police, the Civil Guard, and airport authorities.
The arrival of this new flight confirms that Mallorca remains one of the preferred destinations for the Saudi elite for their summer holidays, especially in exclusive establishments in the Serra de Tramuntana, where they traditionally stay under significant measures of discretion and security.
