Over 500 people attended the Parc de les Estacions on Monday to see 'Padre no hay más que uno 5'. The municipal open-air cinema cycle will run until September 2.
The Palma City Council launched the new edition of Cinema a la Fresca on Monday, starting with a large screening at the Parc de les Estacions. More than 500 spectators gathered in this central space to watch 'Padre no hay más que uno 5', the comedy directed by Santiago Segura in 2025 and one of the major successes of recent Spanish cinema.
Screenings will continue this Tuesday and Wednesday at the same venue with two titles that also received notable acclaim: 'Casa en Flames', by Dani de la Orden, and the Spanish-French co-production 'Sirat', by Oliver Laxe. The cycle, organised by the Culture department, will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 9 PM, always with free access.
The programme will move to the Francesc Garcia Orell square during the last week of screenings, which will conclude on September 2. In total, 15 feature films and 7 short films make up the lineup of an edition that bets on diversity of genres, styles, and origins, with screenings in Catalan, Spanish, and original versions.
Among the highlights are two classics of silent cinema: 'The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari' (1920), which will be screened in collaboration with Insel Radio, and 'The General', by Buster Keaton, which will close the event on September 2 in the Francesc Garcia Orell square, coinciding with the centenary of its premiere.
Catalan cinema will be represented with titles such as 'Casa en Flames' and 'El 47', by Marcel Barrena. The programme also highlights Balearic talent, with productions like 'Las chicas de la estación', by Juana Macías, featuring the participation of the Mallorca-based producer La Perifèrica, and 'Es gegant des Vedrà', a film by Ibiza's Hèctor Escandell based on the 'rondalles' of Joan Castelló Guasch.
Short films will be screened before some feature films and include works such as 'Depredador', by Javier Fesser, or 'Horrorscope', by Pol Diggler, in collaboration with the MECAL festival, as well as 'Vida injusta' and 'Charlie', supported by MajorDocs.
“The 2026 edition places special importance on short films,” say representatives from the Palma City Council.
The next screening will be this Tuesday with 'Casa en Flames', in the original version in Catalan. All screenings are free and will take place at the Parc de les Estacions until the end of August.
